Salon: Sizzle reel for the upcoming 'Theater Whores of Southern Delaware', a comedic docu-series by Billy Shebar and Abigail Harper

In the world of community theater, there are two types of actors: the “regular,” whose loyalty to his home theater is rewarded with a role in every play no matter how wrong he is for the part; and the slightly more talented “theater whore,” who will jump ship for a better role in another theater, even if it means driving an extra 50 miles to rehearsals.

The series follows four hungry thespians as they escape from mundane jobs and families into the world of amateur theatrics.

Billy Shebar wrote the screenplay for Dark Matter (2007) starring Meryl Streep, which won the Alfred P. Sloan Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He has written, directed and produced documentaries and series for major networks including PBS (Broadway or Bust), Discovery (King Tut Unwrapped), and TNT (Boston’s Finest). He has also created over a dozen films and PSAs for non-profits, including The Robin Hood Foundation and the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation.

Shebar is a summa cum laude graduate of Harvard and a Marshall Scholar.
